Cameras focus on Wyo

By JEREMY PELZER

"CHEYENNE -- Wyoming moviegoers this holiday season might find the flick they're watching set a little close to home.

In the big-budget disaster film "2012" currently showing in theaters, John Cusack and Woody Harrelson find in Yellowstone National Park that the park's massive but long-dormant volcanic caldera -- spoiler alert -- isn't so dormant after all.

And on Dec. 18, Columbia Pictures will release "Did You Hear About The Morgans?" -- a romantic comedy featuring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker as an on-the-rocks married couple in Manhattan who are sent by the witness protection program to live in small-town Wyoming after witnessing a murder.

Hollywood hasn't paid this much attention to the Cowboy State since "Brokeback Mountain" and "An Unfinished Life" hit movie screens in 2005.

And the publicity generated by that attention often means serious money for Wyoming."

Yellowstone Region Explodes (with press)!

More 2012 Coverage From Jackson

by Matt Goldberg

"Last month, I was lucky enough to be invited to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to cover the press junket for Roland Emmerich’s upcoming disaster flick 2012, which opens this Friday. Some people reading this may be thinking, “Lucky to go to Wyoming? There are forests, grassland, and mountains all grouped together and it provides a feeling of complete tranquility to the area. It’s isolated but when you stop to think about how most of us are bombarded on a daily basis by technology and communications that isolation turns into an oasis.

I also got to see Roland Emmerich destroy the world real good and then talk about it with Emmerich and stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Hit the jump for what they had to say about the Earth crumbling like an old Chips Ahoy along with my tale of adventure in Big Sky country. It involves bears...."

Shoot Magazine Cineposium Coverage

"While Developing Major Industry Infrastructure Remains High On Film Commissions' Agendas, There's Deep Value In Smaller Scale Initiatives

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., November 04, 2009, Robert Goldrich --- The global community was front and center as film commissioners from around the world turned out for the 34th annual Association of Film Commissioners International's (AFCI) Cineposium held earlier this week (Nov. 2-3) at the Sheraton Universal in Universal City.
But at the same time the notion of film commissions themselves helping to build smaller grassroots filmmaking communities within their jurisdictions picked up momentum during the course of Cineposium dialogue. The topic was most evident at the opening day lunch and general session 'Global Climate Change In The Entertainment Industry: Trends and Tactics For Film Commissions.'"
